The Clever Film Competition was created by Toyota Australia to promote the Yaris model. Its a pretty simple, to enter the contest you had to create a short feature film with a few simple rules. It had to feature a Toyota Yaris, be about a Toyota Yaris, or reference a Yaris, visually, verbally or otherwise.
As for restrictions, just the common sense kind. No law breaking, immoral behavior, film s can’t contain any obscene language and obviously no portraying of the Yaris in a negative manner or show reckless or careless driving.
The winners got a cash prize and their ad broadcasted on TV. The winning film called Clean Getaway portrays a young Yaris driver picking up his date with the typical awkward meeting the father moment. The conversation between the two is full of innuendos it deserves a second view to get them all. Unfortunately it turned out that the public didn’t really appreciate the joke, calling it degrading to women forcing Toyota to pull it from the airwaves, its not even on the contest website.
Part of me gets the reason behind the uproar but sometimes its obvious (at least to me) that it wasn’t in the creators intentions to be degrading to women like some say. The world would be a better place if people wouldn’t take things so seriously all the time.
